You will be are of current and emerging legislation and best practice guidance on Construction Healthy & Safety and facilitate the development of robust and effective policies, systems and processes to the QSHE needs of the business. You will provide guidance, advice and instruction on the practical application of best practice health and safety in the sector. You will represent the company at briefings, site meetings, investigations and audits including external agencies.
You will manager, review and analyse QHSE performance and where required, investigate accidents/incidents in line with best practice. You will develop, manage and disseminate method statements and risk assessments (RAMS) for the work to be delivered. You will take responsibility for company accreditation schemes and carry out audit and inspection of all areas of the business especially projects to ensure risk assessment of health and safety compliance. You will continue the development of the quality assurance, health and safety and environment compliance across the company. You will develop, manage and deliver skills updates, training and sector refresh across the business including completing weekly toolbox talk with employees.
You will have the desire to develop, act and respond to QSHE needs in a dynamic construction environment. You will review, develop and seek continuous improvement across QSHE reach, be mobile and flexible to the changing needs of the role and projects to be delivered and be a self starter with the ability to manage priorities and meet demanding deadlines. You will have a robust and durable personality and maintain standards and be flexible adaptable to a fluid site and office based role with frequent visits to proactive and reactive to live potential projects.
You will maintain confidentiality of company information including clients, data and projects treating all information in a discreet and confidential manner and keep it secure. You will prepare and actively participate in the company annual performance development review process and progress reviews.
Physical & Mental Requirements
Physical effort: Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Day to day moving & handling tasks in office
environment. Frequent requirement to use display screen equipment. Site based activities include
challenges of environment, distance and time.
Mental effort: Concentration and mental attention e.g. data analysis, report writing. Public e.g.
delivering training, company reports and representing the company at meetings. Varying and at times
unpredictable workload. Requirement to meet deadlines.
Emotional effort: Could be exposed to distressing and/or emotional situations, accident and incident investigation and reporting. Impartiality and detachment.
Working conditions: Varied – office, site and potentially incident scenes. Frequent exposure to
inclement weather. Exposure to unpleasant working conditions e.g. incident investigations. Essential and regular car user.
Experience of responsibility for Health & Safety within the Construction Industry.
Experience of the practical delivery of best practice health and safety services.
Experience of investigating audit and review
Experience in writing, development and reviews of RAMS.
Desirable – Construction experience
Qualifications – Relevant professional qualification, degree or equivalent
Desirable – NEBOSH or equivalent
Member of IOSH
Undergraduate or Masters in Health & Safety
Detailed understanding of health and safety legislation in practice
Strong working knowledge of construction processes
Experience of drafting RAMS for varied construction process, clients and environments.
Competence with Microsoft Office.
